Ray Hendricks

I was born in Jamaica, but from my early teens grew up in London.

A few years after leaving school I enlisted into the British army, serving one year in the TA reserve then 22 years completing full colour service. Halfway through my army career I met Donna and in 1984 she agreed to be my wife, through whom the Lord has blessed us with two children - Nicholas and Rebecca.

During my last tour of Germany, I met ASR Ivor Sherwood whilst his office was temporarily located in the same building. Over the next six months I gave my life to Jesus Christ and as a member of the Church found a strong desire to share my faith those who did not know Jesus. I had the opportunity to serve with many churches that carried out regular evangelical outreach programs, but it was whilst serving at my last church in Lancashire that SASRA Area Rep Michael Wajdner met me and recommended I apply to join SASRA as an ASR in 2012.

I was initially posted to Princes Royal Barracks in Gutersloh and have now moved across to serve in Paderborn Garrison. There are currently six regiments with additional smaller units at Normandy Barracks.

My office is in St Peters' Church Barker Barracks where I minister to three regiments:

  • 1 Prince of Wales Royal Regiment;
  • 35 Engineer Regiment Royal Engineers
  • 3 Close Support Battalion Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.

The other regiments I serve nearby are 5 Rifles, Queens Royal Hussars and 1 Armoured Medical Regiment.  All these regiments support 20 Armoured Brigade.
